Why should I pay for a service when I’ve never needed to in the past?
Marine fire suppression systems have always needed regular servicing and maintenance in the past fire systems have typically gone unnoticed and overlooked. Owners or vessel managers have regularly been unaware of the requirements to maintain these systems to ensure the functionality and compliance with Australian Standards and manufacturers recommendations. Land and sea fire services can provide periodic service and repairs to most makes and types of marine fire suppression systems to ensure their compliance and functionality when required.
Am I required to have for a fire suppression system on board my boat?
The regulations around the world changing rapidly. European standards now require any recreational vessel above 15 metres to be fitted with a fire suppression system The US Coast Guard standards are also changing two similar requirements. Australian standards will closely follow. Most newly built locally produced and new vessels available vessels in Australia are already meeting these safety requirements including Palm Beach Motor Yachts, Riviera, Princess, Sunseeker and Maritimo etc.
Commercial vessels in survey have always been required to include a fire suppression system.
We can retrofit fixed gas fire suppression system tailored to your vessel’s size and usage requirements. Feel free to contact us for more information.

Fixed gaseous fire suppression systems have been developed specifically for marine applications. In cases of a fire in the engine room they are designed to release I gaseous extinguishing agent into the protected space to suppress the fire. They do not create any mess, leave any residue nor are they corrosive to critical engine room components.
Designed to activate automatically and or manually as needed and include an engine shut-down in diesel engine applications.
Fireboy-Zintex and Sea Fire have multiple Engineered and Pre-Engineered models to suit most marine applications including recreational and commercial vessels.

I’ve heard the gases used a bad for the ozone and greenhouse?
That’s true. The most commonly used extinguishing agent gases can be both ozone depleting substances end synthetic greenhouse gases. As a result, they have been classified as scheduled gases by the Australian government. This means that supply, transport, installation, service/repair and disposal must only be performed boy and an EAHL accredited technician.
The most commonly used gases include FM200 and Novec1230.
It’s also important to know that in worst case scenario, these gases are the most effective in extinguishing engine room fires, protecting both your assets and people.

Will fire system service effect any insurance claim I may have?
As with any on board system insurance companies have an expectation of fire system functionality. Documented service history may be required during a claim you might have.
While and Sea Fire Services cannot predict whether a claim may be accepted or rejected, Insurance companies tend to look dimly upon any engine room fire related claim where a fire system has not been maintained to manufacturer’s specification and/or Australian Standard 1851.
